Nestled in western Arizona, just 32 km east of the Colorado River along Interstate 10, Quartzsite is a small town of barely 2,000 inhabitants… but with a worldwide reputation among mineral and fossil enthusiasts. Since the 1960s, Quartzsite has established itself as a paradise for "rockhounding," the hobby of searching for and collecting gemstones, precious stones, and fossils.

A spectacular invasion every winter at the Pow Wow Rock Show in Quartzsite, Arizona.

Every year in January and February, Quartzsite, Arizona, sees its population explode, reaching over a million visitors during the Pow Wow Rock Show! In a veritable sea of RVs, gem enthusiasts, collectors, and adventurers flock from all over the country—and far beyond—to participate in the many events dedicated to Earth's treasures.

A vast market in the heart of the desert

During this period, Quartzsite became one of the world's largest open-air flea markets. More than 2,000 vendors gathered to offer semi-precious stones, precious stones, minerals, fossils, as well as handcrafted goods and raw materials. Eight large stone and mineral halls punctuated the town, creating a vibrant and electrifying atmosphere. For all enthusiasts, Quartzsite was the place to be for browsing, discovering, trading, and expanding their collections.

An extreme climate, but an authentic atmosphere

Quartzsite enjoys a typical desert climate: intense heat, minimal humidity, and very rare rainfall (barely a few centimeters per year). While summers are scorching, with temperatures regularly exceeding 37°C between June and September, winter offers ideal conditions for visitors, with mild and sunny days. The entire city—shops, restaurants, theaters, and homes—is air-conditioned to cope with the desert's extremes.

A unique experience in the heart of the desert

Exploring Quartzsite during show season is an extraordinary experience. Between the vastness of the desert, the geological treasures displayed under the tents, and the dynamism of enthusiasts from all over the world, the town offers an authentic, friendly, and unforgettable atmosphere. It is truly the Mecca of rockhounding, where the passion for stones is lived intensely, to the rhythm of the Arizona desert sun.
